Mirfield Angling Club Match Fishing

Mirfield AC under the management of match secretary Martyn Highe have been one of the most successful clubs in Yorkshire, running quality matches  for at least two decades . These matches can have large turnouts on various venues throughout the year.

Events starting in April with the Huddersfield Broad Canal teams of four, with an average entry of 16 teams every year since 1992.

Entry is open to all local clubs and Mirfield members and the format is four anglers to a team and is points based league. It is a Sunday from mid April to May with a break of a couple of weekends in the middle.

River Calder has open matches running on Saturdays and Sundays through from June to October. The river also features a round qualifier for the Angling Trust “Riverfest” final.

The Bradford Calder league is 8 man teams and Mirfield currently have one team, but that could be increased if interest was warranted.

May also see’s matches on the Calder and Hebble navigation canal running through the summer. Catches of Bream to 40lb at Great Heck being required to win on many occasions in 2017.

A Saturday Spring Series is run at Heck for individual anglers from April to June run on a points & weights system. The best five results from 8 to count.

As the autumn approaches attention switches to the lower reaches of the River Calder at Altofts & Mexborough and the Aire & Calder navigation at Altofts, the latter being a well supported Saturday league run in November and December. This also is a points based league for individuals and is well supported with 40 anglers.

For the team angler Mirfield AC run two teams in the National Championships . The original Div 1 team has enjoyed  prominent success for the last decade now being joined by the newly formed and promoted Mirfield/Willy Worms squad who will also fish the Div One National on the River Trent in 2018.

The club also enters teams in the Yorkshire Winter league fished  through the winter months by teams of ten, on the Aire, Calder and Ouse river systems.

All members are welcome to nominate for team events and Martyn  will accommodates all anglers with a place in spare teams if anglers want to feel the buzz of team angling.
