The origins of the club date back to the early 1970’s when the North Eastern Gas Angling Club was formed at the NEG Sports and Social Club in Huddersfield, with fishing on the Broad Canal adjacent to the club. After the privatisation of British Gas in 1986 it became simply The Gas Club AC and soon after entered a partnership with Halifax and District AC to create the Huddersfield Broad Canal Alliance. This alliance continued until in 1999 Halifax and District withdrew their interest leaving The Gas Club AC as sole administrators of fishing on the Broad Canal.
Along the way the Gas Club AC had acquired various stretches of fishing along the nearby River Calder in and around Mirfield. Now with outstanding canal and river fishing available to the membership and a very well supported programme of matches the club we now know as Mirfield AC began to grow at some pace.
In fact it was in 2005 that the Gas Club changed it’s name to Mirfield Angling Club and moved its headquarters to the Contitutional Club, St Pauls Road, Mirfield, where they still hold their meetings on the first Tuesday of every month. If you have already taken a look at some of the other pages you will know that our early momentum has continued, and now in 2018 we offer a wide variety of fishing throughout the area on river, lake, canal and pond.
