Nick Chaffer

Club Chairman

Born 1954 and now fifty years a fisherman! Introduced to fishing by my cousin and uncle, my early years were spent on the trout stocked mill dams around Bingley and Sunnydale Reservoir at East Morton. A trip to Cundal on the Swale and a cheese caught Chub had hooked me on coarse fish and river fishing. Club match fishing with Bingley AC on the Yorkshire rivers soon progressed further afield to the Trent, Welland and Witham. In the mid seventies two good fishing mates were at Nottingham University and my love for the “Mecca” of match fishing Burton Joyce and the mighty River Trent spawned.
During the 1980’s and early 90’s through my business I was fortunate to fish with many great match anglers across the UK and Europe, eventually leading me to the United States where I lived and worked, in angling initially `{`but then as an antique dealer`}` for almost seventeen years.
Returning to the UK in 2008 it was not long before the lure of match fishing had again caught me and I became involved with many of my old mates who told me that Mirfield AC’s matches on the Calder were the best attended and most competitive in the area.
Over the years my involvement with several local angling clubs on the administrative side of our sport has included spells as Match Sectretary at Bingley AC and Treasurer of Gomersal AC.

Ian Dawson

Vice Chairman

Profile of Mirfield AC Vice Chairman Ian Dawson.
Born 1954. A retired former employee of Cadbury’s for nearly 40 years, came to angling quite late at nearly 20 years of age. I joined Gomersal AC and Old bank WMC AC to take the opportunity of travelling on club trips by coach to rivers such as the Trent & Witham. Many of the anglers I fish with today at Mirfield AC events filled the seats on those coaches with me.
Still enjoy other activities and sports, but Angling is and always has been my first passion since that first full year fishing club matches in 1974.

Peter Dawson

Club Secretary

Born 1947 started fishing as a teenager in the early 1960s with two pals from Roberttown, I Joined BFD no1 in 1963 to fish the local river Calder for Roach.
In 1966 we joined Ripon Piscatorial A.C. and fished their club matches on the river Ure, in the 1970s we were asked if we would like to fish for the Ripon team in the North Central League we accepted the invitation and won the league in 1978.
I joined the Gas club in the 1990s and fished the Broad canal matches, in 2002 the then Gas club secretary moved away from the area the president asked if I could do the secretary’s job on a temporary basis until a new secretary is appointed.
In 2005 the Gas club changed its name to the Mirfield Angling Club as it is today and I’m still doing the secretary’s job
