The club is dedicated to promoting natural venues wether it be running water on the local River Calder or natural lakes, canals and ponds. Being run by a like minded bunch of anglers and friends we are very proactive and can often be found on the banks clearing pegs or doing maintenance work.
Based in and around Mirfield, opening up new fishing stretches on the Calder has been our main objective and the current fishing returns show we were right to do this. I am writing this a week after the long standing match record was broken on one of our newly aquired Calder stretches on the Mexborough Estates length near Altofts with 74lb 8ozs of Bream and Skimmers which just goes to show the potential of the river. This work will continue in the coming years………
The club holds regular open matches on it’s venues including for the last two years 2013 and 2014 qualifiying events for the National Riverfest Final held on the River Wye in Hereford. In 2001 we joined the NFA to the benefit of our members giving them access to fish the National Championship in division 5 which led to promotion in successive years also picking up silver and bronze team medals on the way to still be competing in this years (2014) Division 1 National Championship on the River Trent organised by The Angling Trust, formally the N.F.A. We are also members of Fish legal who will act on our behalf on Riparian disputes, pollution problems, poaching etc. to name but a few.
In 2014 the team gained a new sponsor so are now fishing under the banner of Mirfield Willy Worms.
